2024 Trends We Are Expecting

Happy New Year! Did 2023 even happen? We are so blessed that you have followed along with all that is happening here at Hemme, and we hope you continue to do so. In today's blog post we are breaking down all of the new construction trends that we are expecting to see in 2024! Buckle up!

  1. Blending Backsplashes

"Backsplashes are becoming a bigger kitchen statement and stretching to new heights. In making the backsplash more of a focal point, designers are installing a slab of stone or quartz behind the range or countertop while keeping the surrounding backsplash in tile," Houzz says.

Blending backsplashes in a new construction home can be a great way to create a seamless and cohesive look throughout your kitchen. There are many options available to achieve this, including using the same material for both your countertop and backsplash. This not only provides a uniform look, but also helps to visually expand the space.

Another option is to choose a backsplash that complements the color and style of your countertop. For example, if you have a dark granite countertop, you might choose a lighter colored tile for your backsplash to create contrast.

In addition, consider the type of material you want to use for your backsplash. Ceramic or porcelain tiles are a popular choice due to their durability and endless design possibilities. Glass tiles can also add a unique touch and reflect light, making your kitchen appear brighter and more open.

Overall, blending backsplashes in a new construction home is a great way to enhance the overall aesthetic of your kitchen while also providing practical benefits. With so many options available, you're sure to find a solution that works perfectly for your specific needs and tastes.

2. Timeless Style - "Old is new again"

Houzz also states that "old is new again". Many homeowners are opting for materials and features that are timeless and won't go out of style, especially as they plan to age in place. This trend has given rise to a new design aesthetic known as "modern rustic" or "rustic modern."

Brick, handmade clay tiles, and rustic wood elements are all materials that are commonly associated with traditional or rustic design. However, when used in a modern context, they can add warmth, texture, and character to a space. Arches, another traditional element, can also add a sense of grandeur and elegance to a room.

The use of these materials and features in modern design is not just limited to residential spaces, but can also be seen in commercial interiors as well. From restaurants and cafes to office spaces and retail stores, the modern rustic aesthetic has become a popular choice for creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Overall, the incorporation of traditional and rustic elements into modern design is a trend that is here to stay. It allows for a timeless and elegant look that homeowners and designers alike can appreciate.

3. Multipurpose Islands

One of the best ways to create a kitchen fit for entertaining is to install a multipurpose island. A kitchen island can act as a central hub for guests to gather around, while also providing additional storage and countertop space for food preparation.

A multipurpose island can include a sink, a built-in cutting board, and even a wine refrigerator. These features can help to streamline the food preparation process and allow hosts to easily interact with guests while they cook.

To further enhance the communal atmosphere, consider adding bar stools around the island to provide additional seating. This will allow guests to comfortably gather around the island and chat while enjoying their food and drinks.

Overall, a multipurpose island can be a great addition to any kitchen, especially if you enjoy entertaining guests. It can provide additional storage, countertop space, and functionality, while also creating a central hub for guests to gather around and enjoy each other's company.

4. Butler's Pantries

The butler's pantry, or scullery, has become a popular trend in modern households. This secondary kitchen space is designed to reduce visual and physical clutter in the main kitchen by providing extra storage and countertop space for pantry items and small appliances. The rise of the butler's pantry can be attributed to its many benefits, such as maximizing the functionality of the kitchen and improving the overall aesthetic of the home. In addition, it allows homeowners to keep their cooking and entertaining spaces separate, making it easier to prepare and serve meals without the distractions of cluttered countertops. If you're looking to incorporate a butler's pantry into your home, consider the many design options available to create a space that is both practical and visually appealing.

5. Blue

Clearly, blue is about to have a big year in 2024. With name brands such as Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Valspar, and more selecting a shade of blue for their Color of the Year, hues of blue are sure to take over.

In the midst of a chaotic world, it's natural to seek out calming influences in our daily lives, and homeowners are no exception. Blue accents and details are becoming increasingly popular as a way to achieve a sense of tranquility at home. Whether it's a light and airy sky-inspired hue or a deep and moody watery color, blues are being incorporated into decorative materials and housewares in a big way.

One reason for the popularity of blue is its association with the natural world. From the vast expanse of the ocean to the clear blue skies, blue is a color that brings to mind a sense of peace and serenity. Additionally, blues can be versatile and work well in a variety of design styles, from traditional to modern.

Expect to see a wide range of blues in home decor trends in the coming year. Soft, muted shades like powder blue and periwinkle can add a subtle touch of calm to a space, while bolder shades like navy or indigo can make a dramatic statement. Whether you choose to incorporate blue with accent pillows, artwork, or larger furniture pieces, it's a color that can help create a soothing and peaceful atmosphere in any room.

6. Herringbone Pattern

Herringbone is a design pattern that has been around for centuries. It is a classic and timeless design that has been used in various industries, including fashion, interior design, and architecture. Recently, herringbone has seen a resurgence in popularity, particularly in kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas of the home. However, designers are now experimenting with new ways to use the pattern to create an updated look with more visual interest, movement, and texture.

One of the most common ways designers are updating the herringbone pattern is by changing the direction of the zigs. Instead of the traditional horizontal zigs, designers are now using diagonal or vertical zigs to create a more unique and modern look. This new direction not only adds visual interest but also creates a sense of movement and texture that can make any space feel more dynamic and lively.

Another way designers are updating the herringbone pattern is by using different materials. While wood has traditionally been the go-to material for herringbone, designers are now using a wide range of materials, including tile, brick, and even wallpaper. This allows for even more flexibility and creativity when it comes to incorporating the herringbone pattern into a space.

Overall, the herringbone pattern is a classic and versatile design element that is experiencing a renaissance in modern design. Whether used in its traditional horizontal form or in new and creative ways, the herringbone pattern is a great way to add visual interest, movement, and texture to any space.
